Child Nutrition Programs Application Submission Process

Only schools recognized by SED with an active BEDS code and/or institution ID in the SED Reference File (SEDREF) are eligible to participate in the Child Nutrition Programs. The Child Nutrition Program Office does not have the authority to register schools and/or update BEDS codes. If you are a public school, charter or BOCES, and need to make changes to any of your schools, please refer to the Public School Registration information within the SED Office of Accountability. For non-public school changes, please visit the Office of Religious and Independent Schools BEDS Information

Organizations within the New York City Area should contact the New York City Department of Education Office of School Food Service at 1-718-707-4371 to inquire about becoming a site.

SFSP regulations require that the State agency use the following priority system in approving applicants to operate sites that propose to serve the same area or the same enrolled children:
(i) Public or nonprofit private school food authorities;
(ii) Public agencies and private nonprofit organizations that have demonstrated successful program performance in a prior year;
(iii) New public agencies; and
(iv) New private nonprofit organization

Remedies and complaint filing deadlines vary by program or incident.

Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g., Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.) should contact the state or local agency that administers the program or contact USDA through the Telecommunications Relay Service at 711 (voice and TTY). Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English.

To file a program discrimination complaint, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, AD-3027, found online at How to File a Program Discrimination Complaint and at any USDA office or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form. To request a copy of the complaint form, call (866) 632-9992. Submit your completed form or letter to USDA by:
