Comments from the Listening Sessions for the CNP: Revision to Meal Patterns Proposed Rule

The New York State Education Department (SED), Office of Child Nutrition Program Administration hosted two listening sessions on March 9th and 16th of 2023 to hear from New York State school food professionals on the potential impact of the “Child Nutrition Programs: Revision to Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020 Dietary Guideline for Americans” federal proposed rule.

From the two listening sessions, our office was able to collected direct responses from NYS stakeholders regarding their opinions and views on the proposed multi-year approach that includes key areas of, but not limited to, reducing school meal sodium limits, new added sugar standards, and long-term milk and whole grain standards. You can view the feedback received from the listening sessions here.

While our office collected the comments received from professionals across NYS, it is important to note that these responses are not the official opinion or viewpoint of SED. The intent of providing the collected feedback is to assist School Food Authorities in formulating comments to the proposed rule.

The United States Department of Agriculture has extended the deadline to submit comments on the proposed rule to May 10, 2023. Written comments can be submitted using the provided link:
