Local School Wellness Policy and Triennial Assessment

Local education agencies (LEAs) participating in the National School Lunch Program and/or School Breakfast Program were required to develop a local school wellness policy and have this policy in place by July 1, 2017. An assessment of this policy must be conducted at a minimum of once every three years. Therefore, the first triennial assessment must be completed by June 30, 2020.

A Local School Wellness Policy and Assessment power point is available to assist LEAs in developing/updating their wellness policies and conducting the required assessment. A NYS Wellness Policy Assessment Tool has been created for assessing compliance with specific components of the local wellness policies. LEAs can use this, create their own evaluation method or use other developed tools.  For more information, please visit the Local School Wellness Policy page.

To file a program discrimination complaint, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, AD-3027, found online at How to File a Program Discrimination Complaint and at any USDA office or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form.
