Summer Food Service Program Sponsor Training

The New York State Education Department (SED) will conduct seven training workshops at various locations throughout the State in March and April. Training dates and locations are listed on page three. Experienced sponsors may sign up for the webinar instead of attending one of the in-person training sessions, however all potential new non-SFA sponsors are required to attend training in either Albany, Goshen, Syracuse, Buffalo, Elmira, or Brooklyn (training for sponsors with camp sites only).

These workshops will provide a comprehensive overview of program administration and operations as well as recent changes that will take effect in 2018. Each training workshop is divided into breakout sessions that will provide participants with the regulatory requirements specific to how they plan to operate their program. Please refer to the daily training schedule and session descriptions beginning on page six for more information. More than one person from your organization may attend training in order to obtain all relevant information from the breakout sessions. Please review the topics that will be provided at training and be sure that the appropriate people from your organization attend training. Additionally, you should review how you operate or plan to operate and choose the appropriate sessions to attend. Training summaries will be available on our web site. Food service management company representatives, nutrition advocates, Department of Health officials and other persons interested in learning about the program are encouraged to attend.

A webinar will be held on March 23, 2018 from 10:00am until approximately 11:00am. A copy of the webinar will be available on our website shortly after it is conducted for anyone not available to attend live. Anyone may sign up for the webinar; however new non-SFA sponsors are still required to attend one of our seven training workshops throughout New York State. To register for the webinar go to the WebEx meeting site or click the link on page three.

Please register for training by March 12, 2018. Experienced sponsors with a Child Nutrition Management System password may register for training online by following the directions on page four. Otherwise, please complete and return page five, “Summer Food Service Program Sponsor Training Registration Form.”

The training session on March 21, 2018 at Beth Rachel High School is for sponsors that operate camp sites and intend to claim 3 meals in the SFSP. Accordingly, only information and regulatory requirements specific to operating camp sites in the SFSP will be provided. All sponsors who operate camp sites are welcome to attend. The first session from 9:00am to 10:00am is for potential new camp sponsors. The general session will begin at 10:15am.  Please note that a camp session will be part of the daily schedule at all other locations. Open site and closed enrolled site information will not be covered at this location, however will be part of training at all other locations. If your organization is a potential new sponsor in the SFSP and has any open or closed enrolled sites as well as camp sites, it is in your best interest to attend one of the other training sessions throughout the state to gain information regarding the other site types.
