NYSED Administration of Child Nutrition Programs

  • Administers Federal and NYS Child Nutrition (CN) Programs to public and nonpublic nonprofit schools; local, county, municipal, and state governmental entities; Indian tribal territories, migrant programs; nonprofit agencies; faith-based organizations and camps
  • Administers NYS Anti-Shaming Policy
  • Administers NYS Breakfast After the Bell Program & Equipment Grants
  • Administers Federal Equipment Assistance Grants
  • Administers Federal and NYS Farm to School: programs, initiatives, and grant funding with dedicated Farm to School staff
  • Agency Mission: provides powerful educational support in improving student behavior, ability to focus and academic performance
  • Provides Technical Assistance, Professional Development, Training and Resources in food safety, culinary practices, CN management, nutrition education, procurement, and farm to school
  • Prioritizes CN Programs within State Education Agency: provides sufficient qualified consultative, technical, and managerial personnel to administer CN Programs, monitor performance, and measure progress in achieving Program goals  
  • Program Participant Efficiency: a single consolidated website for claiming reimbursement, reporting, and operational guidance
  • Maximizes CN Program Benefits: partners with other state agencies to provide schools with direct access to student eligibility data
  • Economic Development Impact: CN programs create jobs and contribute to agricultural and economic growth and social stability for whole communities
  • Expands CN Program Participation: collaborates with other state agencies, special interest groups, conducts outreach activities, and provides marketing materials
  • Engages with USDA on Child Nutrition Issues: provides consultation on policy implementation and shares operational and administrative best practices to support the success of CN programs across the Nation

Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English.

To file a program discrimination complaint, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, AD-3027, found online at How to File a Program Discrimination Complaint and at any USDA office or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form.
