2020 SFSP Sponsors to be Reviewed

The New York State Education Department (SED) review process is required by Part 7 CFR, Section 225 of the Federal regulations for sponsors administering the SFSP. The objective of the review process is to ensure program compliance through the evaluation of the sponsor’s program operations by observing site operations and conducting a fiscal audit of the SFSP administration. SED reviews all SFSP sponsors a minimum of once every three years.

2020 Area Eligible List to Qualify Open and Closed Enrolled Sites

In the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), sponsors operating sites located in and drawing their attendance from needy areas can qualify to receive SFSP reimbursement for up to two meals served to children at the sites daily. These sites can operate as open, restricted open or closed enrolled in a needy area. School data can be used to establish area eligibility for these types of sites.

2019 Summer Food Service Program Sponsor Renewal

For all sponsors that operated the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) in 2018, the SFSP Renewal on the Child Nutrition Management System (CNMS) is now active for the 2019 summer. It is expected that all experienced sponsors will access and submit the renewal on-line and send any additional required information via fax, email or mail.

SFSP Waiver Request Approvals

The New York State Education Department (SED) has received approvals for all three waiver requests submitted to the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service for rescinded policy waivers as issued in SFSP 01-2019, Summer Food Service Program Memoranda Rescission, October 11, 2018. The following waiver approvals are for:

Waiver Request 1 – Policy extending Offer versus Serve using the SFSP Meal Pattern for all sponsoring organizations  (statutory and regulatory requirements rescinded in SP 10-2017, SFSP 06-2017.)

The New York State Education Department (SED) has submitted waiver requests to the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service for rescinded policy waivers as issued in SFSP 01-2019, Summer Food Service Program Memoranda Rescission, October 11, 2018.

The goal of these waivers is to reinstate the rescinded flexibilities and policies to allow for efficient and cost-effective Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) management and reduce the administrative burden for sponsoring organizations and SED staff.
