Summer Food Service Program

SFSP Sponsors that Operated in 2020-21

Community organizations may partner with experienced SFSP sponsors to operate as a site to serve meals to eligible children.

The SFSP sponsor provides the meals to the site operator and ensures all financial and administrative responsibilities are met. Site supervisors receive training from the approved sponsor and may be required to sign an agreement that outlines the site’s responsibilities.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released a Child Nutrition Waiver Update memo announcing extensions of needed flexibilities for summer 2021 operations for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), and the NSLP Seamless Summer Option (SSO).

NYS CNP Waiver Request

The New York State Education Department (SED) is requesting the following waiver from USDA requirements:

  1. Request to Waive Monitoring Requirements of the National School Lunch/School Breakfast Program, and the Summer Food Service Program During COVID-19.

This waiver has not been approved at this time. Further guidance will be made available upon approval.

NYS CNP Waiver Request

The New York State Education Department (SED) is requesting the following waiver from USDA requirements:

1. Request to Waive the 60-day claim for reimbursement deadlines for July – December 2020.

**Updated**USDA Extends Free Meals for Kids Through June 30, 2021

The New York State Education Department (SED) has elected the use of the Nationwide waiver flexibilities provided by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to allow free meals to continue to be available to all children throughout the entire 2020-2021 school year:

SFSP New Sponsor Application Request Form

SED is now accepting applications for participation in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) during the 2020-2021 school year until December 31, 2020 to the extent that federal and state funding allows. This is for new sponsors who have not been approved to operate the SFSP.  The deadline to submit an application is October 31, 2020.  To request an application, please fill out this SFSP Application Request Form here.

To file a program discrimination complaint, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, AD-3027, found online at How to File a Program Discrimination Complaint and at any USDA office or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form.
